Case study: Jeonju City

SOUTH KOREA: Baling of MSW

This landfill outside Jeonju City accepts waste from Jeonju and two small towns nearby; a total of 600 bales/day of household waste and organic waste (30%) is delivered to this landfill. During mid-November 2001, three of our machines were commissioned and they operated under roof-cover 10 hours/day, 6 days/week.

No shredder was required and there is a 60% volume reduction during the baling process. Each bale has 6 layers of LLDPE foil, and weighs between 800-900 kg. After the bale is finished, the round bales are transported by truck to a nearby area for landfilling.
